Family Focus International, a pro-family non-governmental organization has put plans underway to implement its "Twin Family Project" an innovation aimed at empowering poor and deprived families by linking them to well to do families.
Addressing the chiefs and elders of Odumase New Town in the central region of Ghana where the very first poor families would be selected from for support through other families, the President of Family Focus International said ; the project was aimed at families empowering families and opined that until the basic units of society was strengthened, the bigger community would remain weak.
Mr. Alfred Kobina Arthur said, the project, which was the first of it kind in Africa is geared towards improving the lot of poor families. He said the idea was not to have a wealthy family support a poor family infinitely but to help empower such poor families to be able to improve their situation and take charge of their own destiny. He indicated that a team from Family Focus in collaboration with the chiefs and elders of the community would scout for the poorest of the poor and find out what their economic status was with regards to their occupation and income.
Mr. Arthur said, it is based on the findings of the team that would determine who qualifies to benefit from the project.
He indicated that Ten families would benefit in the first test case after which the project would be spread to every corner of Ghana with time. He said " I am very optimistic about this project and very hopeful that it would go a long way to help alleviate poverty at the core of the family unit".
He hinted that well to do families would be approached by Family Focus International after selecting the first batch of beneficiaries to solicit their support in helping restore some dignity and hope to poor families.
The chief of Odumase New Town , Nana Kweku Larbi was full of praise for Family Focus International and inspire them to expand the programme since it was good. The delegation of Family Focus International included the Vice President, Nana Yaw Osei-Darkwa.
